One thing the political parties agreed about is which Content Management System (CMS) will be used for the high profile Whitehouse.gov website. The Biden Administration will be keeping WordPress to power the site, at least for now.

Whitehouse.gov, the official website of the White House, was first released in October 1994 by the Clinton Administration. The website used a mix of proprietary software from its beginning through the Bush Administration.

When compared to past wh.gov sites, the new Biden Administration website has a modern look with large images, a clean menu structure, plenty of open space, and includes some accessibility-related items.

The Obama Administration redesigned the process using Drupal, an open-source CMS in 2009. The Trump administration launched a redesigned website using WordPress in December 2017. According to a December 14, 2017 article in the Washington Examiner, the move to WordPress saved three million dollars a year by reducing the cost to operate the previous site by over sixty percent.

The new website has a more modern look with large images, a clean menu structure, and plenty of open space. The new version is the first to address accessible design and includes some accessibility-related features. There are high-contrast and large text modes available to site visitors and the Accessibility Statement references an ongoing effort to conform with WCAG version 2.1 level AA criteria.
