WHO ARE WE?
WHAT DO WE STAND FOR?
We enthusiastically embrace and support open source initiatives, especially as it relates to software. I’m please to see what started with source code sharing in the 1980’s is being applied in other areas. Other technologies have and will benefit from a community of contributors who bring with them a diversity of needs, skills and ideas.
A list of the top benefits of open source does not necessarily start with free or very low cost. Often top open source benefits include, faster market timing, crowd power, attracts experts, no vendor lock, scalability, better security, high quality, adaptability and cost effectiveness.
Not everyone is sold on the open source model. And there are those who only support open source as a low cost development tool but will move to make the product proprietary as soon as it is feasible to do so.
I welcome the opportunity to discuss these differing viewpoints in future WP Chronicle articles.
